Examining the ideological constructs which are perpetuated by the mass media Ruston’s work peels away the facade, questioning concepts like beauty, truth and love.    “Reality just isn’t good enough for HD TV’s”.

Ruston’s renowned ’scratch paintings’ are created using distinct materials such as MDF, household gloss, duct tape and silicone.    Scratching into the canvas, it is the opposite of traditional paintings, instead of adding, he is taking away using blades, scalpels and other surgical instruments.   The collages dissect the thought process behind the paintings and also portray the all important sense of humour that Ruston possesses.
